Okay, I guess this is still working. I had a blog a few years back that seems to have fallen into the void, so I guess I won't be continuing that one. A shame, too, since I had some great content there I was hoping to revive.
But from endings come new beginnings.
I have decided to revive my blog to declutter my Facebook postings and provide a forum that people can go to voluntarily without having to wade through my prolixity. In an era where saying 'that's using a lot of words' is considered an insult, I celebrate it as a compliment (what else are we supposed to do? Communicate in grunts and hand gestures?) But I know that a lot of people have become conditioned to reading things 240 characters at a time and to not think before they emote. I don't expect many of them will find their way here. If they do, then they may consider this fair warning. I'm neurodivergent; this is how I roll 😉
Beyond that, I will have more control over what I say and how I say it here without Facebook's Community Standards (odd; nobody checked with me!) I've been put in Facebook Jail for threats of violence (movie quotes), and inappropriate content (directly quoting someone one else's posting even though the original post didn't knock down the author. Meanwhile actual hate speech (involving anti-Semitic content, content offensive to multiple religions besides my own, and slurs against disabled people and the LGBTQ community) was not found to violate Community Standards. Which makes me think that this is no longer a community I want to live in.
If that weren't bad enough, people have just gotten vicious these days. I don't want to deal with that. I don't consider myself to have enemies. They're a waste of time that I could use to do other things. But I don't want to demean myself in these sorts of disputes, either. You don't see Chuck Norris throwing down in dive bar fights, or LeBron James playing pickup basketball in a park somewhere. I'm not trying to be conceited but I think I can do a little better than slumming for easy wins!
So, to avoid what Cory Doctorow has referred to as the 'enshittification' of the platform, I'm going to take more of my freeform and in-depth writing here. Keep watching this space for future developments.
